History of Tom Brown Park

The park was established on January 30, 1977 in honor of Thomas Irvin Brown, Jr. To give some context, Mr. Brown was a coach for Leon High School from 1944 to 1946. He also coached Babe Ruth League for two decades and served as a Leon County Commissioner for 14 years – all while impacting the lives of numerous young citizens in a positive way. When it came to sports, Tom Brown truly left a legacy, and the park is a testament to that.

Features of Tom Brown Park

The park has many features that make it an ideal place to spend some time outdoors. There are walking trails, playgrounds, picnic pavilions and tables and much more.

This park is perfect for any baseball or softball lover, with plenty of fields to choose from. If you prefer playing tennis or racquetball, there are also courts available. And if you’re looking for a large open space to host a community event, this park has got you covered – the July 4th Fireworks Show is just one example.

The park’s diverse offerings include a 24-hole disc golf course, four sand volleyball courts, eight multi-size soccer fields-converted from baseball/softball fields, two full-length outdoor basketball courts, two soccer fields and a remote control car track.

There is also a dirt BMX track.

Walking and Biking Trails at Tom Brown

Tom Brown Park boasts several walking and biking trails, which are perfect for taking a leisurely stroll or enjoying an outdoor adventure. The East Entrance Trail is the most popular and runs from Capital Circle SE to Tennessee Street. Additionally, there are several other trails that meander through the park.

If you’re looking for a more challenging ride, there is a mountain biking trail that winds through the park. The trails are well-maintained and can be enjoyed year-round.

Tom Brown park is located at 501 Easterwood Drive and can be found in the eastern section of Tallahassee near Capital Circle SE, positioned between Mahan Drive and Apalachee Parkway.

It is open from sunrise to sunset, 365 days a year and there is no admission fee.

Visitors can park in the lot located at Tom Brown Park off Easterwood Drive and then walk or bike around the park.
